The Unstoppable Era of Smart Ports
Ports are on the brink of a transformative era. According to McKinsey & Co., inefficiencies in ports cost the industry a staggering USD 17 billion annually. Moreover, the OECD predicts that global container handling in ports could surge fourfold by 2030 and reach five to six times current levels by 2050. The integration of 5G, IoT, and AI is enabling seamless connections among ships, cranes, containers, and trucks, paving the way for efficient unmanned ports. Amsterdam’s port utilizes sensors, AI, and IoT for port turnaround time analysis, striving to achieve connected shipping. Similarly, the Port of Valencia has deployed black boxes on 200 cranes, trucks, and forklifts to collect and analyze location and operational data.
